Semi-Dirac State and Directional Mass Nullification
1. Physical Introduction: The Disappearance of Mass
Under the dominion of classical mechanics, mass is an eternal scalar property of matter. Even relativity only allows mass to approach infinity as velocity increases. However, topological physics has torn open a loophole in condensed matter crystals (such as topological phases are robust against local perturbations.">Topological Semimetals): due to band crossings and the formation of Dirac cones, the energy and momentum of electrons exhibit an absolute linear relationship, and their "effective mass" instantly vanishes to zero at the microscopic level.
These particles need not reach the speed of light to traverse the crystal lattice like ghosts in a massless state. Even more bizarre is the existence of "Semi-Dirac Fermions"—their mass is zero along one spatial axis, yet extremely large along the perpendicular axis.
2. Clarification: Effective Mass vs. Inertial Mass
Before describing the override protocol, an honest distinction is necessary. The Dirac cone in a topological semimetal renders the effective mass of charge carriers (electrons/holes) to zero inside the lattice — this is a band-structure concept, defined as the curvature of the energy-momentum dispersion: 1/m_eff_ = ∂²E/∂k². An electron in a Dirac cone behaves as a massless relativistic particle within the crystal*, but its inertial mass (the m₀ ≈ 9.11 × 10⁻³¹ kg rest mass) remains unchanged — it is a fundamental particle property, not a band parameter.
Extending this effective-mass-zeroing to macroscopic inertial mass (the m in F = ma that governs momentum, kinetic energy, and G-force tolerance) requires a fundamentally different mechanism: it is not simply the same condensed-matter band-structure effect scaled up. In Mode C, the torsion field is modulated to match a Semi-Dirac effective-mass tensor, but the coupling from microscopic band-structure effective mass to macroscopic inertial mass requires the N² superradiance amplification chain (§4.5 of the same document) and a phase-locked loop tuned to the inertial frame rather than the lattice dispersion. The lore below describes the desired effect of this mode; the physical gap between effective mass and inertial mass is bridged by the torsion engine's multistep coupling, not by a literal macroscopic Dirac cone.
3. Dirac Mass Override Protocol
In the armament sequence of Shepherd's Wasteland, simply solving "anti-gravity (gravitational deflection)" still leaves the wearer crushed by their own "inertial mass" during supersonic maneuvers. Therefore, the Computational Arena introduced mass nullification technology.
Through baryonic torsion fields and QM-Tether armor, the system forcibly renders an equivalent "topological semimetal" band structure in the macroscopic space surrounding the wearer. Within this artificial Dirac cone field, the "effective inertial mass" of the wearer's macroscopic body is forcibly redefined to zero by the system's underlying code.
This means that an extremely tiny physical thrust (such as a simple muscular push) can generate near-infinite instantaneous acceleration. And when the wearer executes a 100-Mach acute-angle turn, being massless, they are immune to any G-force tearing.
4. Semi-Dirac Armor: Anisotropic Mass Deflection
What truly makes high-level entities in the Computational Arena invincible is the weaponization of "Semi-Dirac Fermion" characteristics—the Directional Mass Lock.
In highly nonlinear combat manifolds, the system's anyon core calculates ballistic trajectories in real time.
- On the Attack/Maneuver Axis: The wearer's effective mass is nullified to 0, granting unlimited burst speed.
- On the Hit/Defense Axis: The system's topological parameters reverse instantly; the wearer's effective mass along this normal direction is set to an extremely high threshold (approaching infinity).
When an enemy's armor-piercing kinetic weapon strikes the armor's flank, it no longer impacts an 80-kilogram human, but a dense mass body equivalent, in the momentum equation, to a tiny dwarf star. The kinetic energy is unceremoniously devoured by the absolute inertial wall, shattering into its own debris.
5. Conclusion: Mass as a Variable
In the high-dimensional engine of Reality-as-Code, mass is no longer an intrinsic property bestowed upon objects by God. It is merely a scalar parameter mounted on a three-dimensional grid. Having understood the crossing rules of topology, mass can be arbitrarily nullified to zero or endlessly multiplied.
